3：15驿卒奉王命急忙起行，旨意也传遍书珊城。王同哈曼坐下饮酒，书珊城的民却都慌乱。
The posts went out； being hastened by the king's mandment； and the decree was given in Shushan the palace。 And the king and Haman sat down to drink； but the city Shushan was perplexed。

4：1末底改知道所做的这一切事，就撕裂衣服，穿麻衣，蒙灰尘，在城中行走，痛哭哀号。
When Mordecai perceived all that was done； Mordecai rent his clothes； and put on sackcloth with ashes； and went out into the midst of the city； and cried with a loud and a bitter cry；
4：2到了朝门前停住脚步，因为穿麻衣的不可进朝门。
And came even before the king's gate： for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth。
4：3王的谕旨所到的各省各处，犹大人大大悲哀，禁食哭泣哀号，穿麻衣躺在灰中的甚多。
And in every province； whithersoever the king's mandment and his decree came； there was great mourning among the Jews； and fasting； and weeping； and wailing； and many lay in sackcloth and ashes。
4：4王后以斯帖的宫女和太监来把这事告诉以斯帖，她甚是忧愁，就送衣服给末底改穿，要他脱下麻衣，他却不受。
So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her。 Then was the queen exceedingly grieved； and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai； and to take away his sackcloth from him： but he received it not。
4：5以斯帖就把王所派伺候她的一个太监，名叫哈他革召来，吩咐他去见末底改，要知道这是什么事，是什么缘故。
Then called Esther for Hatach； one of the king's chamberlains； whom he had appointed to attend upon her； and gave him a mandment to Mordecai； to know what it was； and why it was。
4：6于是哈他革出到朝门前的宽阔处见末底改。
So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city； which was before the king's gate。
4：7末底改将自己所遇的拭，并哈曼为灭绝犹大人，应许捐入王库的银数都告诉了他。
And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him； and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews； to destroy them。
4：8又将所抄写传遍书珊城，要灭绝犹大人的旨意交给哈他革，要给以斯帖看，又要给她说明，并嘱咐她进去见王，为本族的人在王面前恳切祈求。
Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them； to shew it unto Esther； and to declare it unto her； and to charge her that she should go in unto the king； to make supplication unto him； and to make request before him for her people。
4：9哈他革回来，将末底改的话告诉以斯帖。
And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai。
4：10以斯帖就吩咐哈他革去见末底改，说，
Again Esther spake unto Hatach； and gave him mandment unto Mordecai；
4：11王的一切臣仆和各省的人民，都知道有一个定例，若不蒙召，擅入内院见王的，无论男女必被治死。除非王向他伸出金杖，不得存活。现在我没有蒙召进去见王已经三十日了。
All the king's servants； and the people of the king's provinces； do know； that whosoever； whether man or woman； shall e unto the king into the inner court； who is not called； there is one law of his to put him to death； except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre； that he may live： but I have not been called to e in unto the king these thirty days。
4：12人就把以斯帖这话告诉末底改。
And they told to Mordecai Esther's words。
4：13末底改托人回覆以斯帖说，你莫想在王宫里强过一切犹大人，得免这祸。
Then Mordecai manded to answer Esther； Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house； more than all the Jews。
4：14此时你若闭口不言，犹大人必从别处得解脱，蒙拯救，你和你父家，必至灭亡。焉知你得了王后的位分，不是为现今的机会吗。
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time； then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place； but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed： and who knoweth whether thou art e to the kingdom for such a time as this？
4：15以斯帖就吩咐人回报末底改说，
Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer；
4：16你当去招聚书珊城所有的犹大人，为我禁食三昼三夜，不吃不喝。我和我的宫女也要这样禁食。然后我违例进去见王，我若死就死吧。
Go； gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan； and fast ye for me； and neither eat nor drink three days； night or day： I also and my maidens will fast likewise； and so will I go in unto the king； which is not according to the law： and if I perish； I perish。
4：17于是末底改照以斯帖一切所吩咐的去行。
So Mordecai went his way； and did according to all that Esther had manded him。

5：1第三日，以斯帖穿上朝服，进王宫的内院，对殿站立。王在殿里坐在宝座上，对着殿门。
Now it came to pass on the third day； that Esther put on her royal apparel； and stood in the inner court of the king's house； over against the king's house： and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house； over against the gate of the house。
5：2王见王后以斯帖站在院内，就施恩于她，向她伸出手中的金杖，以斯帖便向前摸杖头。
And it was so； when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court； that she obtained favour in his sight： and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand。 So Esther drew near； and touched the top of the sceptre。
5：3王对她说，王后以斯帖阿，你要什么。你求什么，就是国的一半也必赐给你。
Then said the king unto her； What wilt thou； queen Esther？ and what is thy request？ it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom。
5：4以斯帖说，王若以为美，就请王带着哈曼，今日赴我所预备的筵席。
And Esther answered； If it seem good unto the king； let the king and Haman e this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him。
5：5王说，叫哈曼速速照以斯帖的话去行。于是王带着哈曼赴以斯帖所预备的筵席。
Then the king said； Cause Haman to make haste； that he may do as Esther hath said。 So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared。
5：6在酒席筵前，王又问以斯帖说，你要什么，我必赐给你。你求什么，就是国的一半也必为你成就。
And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine； What is thy petition？ and it shall be granted thee： and what is thy request？ even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed。
5：7以斯帖回答说，我有所要，我有所求。
Then answered Esther； and said； My petition and my request is；
5：8我若在王眼前蒙恩，王若愿意赐我所要的，准我所求的，就请王带着哈曼，再赴我所要预备的筵席。明日我必照王所问的说明。
If I have found favour in the sight of the king； and if it please the king to grant my petition； and to perform my request； let the king and Haman e to the banquet that I shall prepare for them； and I will do to morrow as the king hath said。
5：9那日哈曼心中快乐，欢欢喜喜地出来。但见末底改在朝门不站起来，连身也不动，就满心恼怒末底改。
Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart： but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate； that he stood not up； nor moved for him； he was full of indignation against Mordecai。
5：10哈曼暂且忍耐回家，叫人请他朋友和他妻子细利斯来。
Nevertheless Haman refrained himself： and when he came home； he sent and called for his friends； and Zeresh his wife。
5：11哈曼将他富厚的荣耀，众多的儿女，和王抬举他使他超乎首领臣仆之上，都述说给他们听。
And Haman told them of the glory of his riches； and the multitude of his children； and all the things wherein the king had promoted him； and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king。
5：12哈曼又说，王后以斯帖预备筵席，除了我之外不许别人随王赴席。明日王后又请我随王赴席。
Haman said moreover； Yea； Esther the queen did let no man e in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself； and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king。
5：13只是我见犹大人末底改坐在朝门，虽有这一切荣耀，也与我无益。
Yet all this availeth me nothing； so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate。
5：14他的妻细利斯和他一切的朋友对他说，不如立一个五丈高的木架，明早求王将末底改挂在其上，然后你可以欢欢喜喜地随王赴席。哈曼以这话为美，就叫人做了木架。
Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him； Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high； and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon： then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet。 And the thing pleased Haman； and he caused the gallows to be made。
